I read with interest the commentary by Gregory Spencer Jr. ("Connect the lines," Feb. 2) on the need for a transportation hub in Baltimore. There is no question that the convergence of the Red Line, the existing light rail transit (LRT) line and the Charm City Circulator will provide a new day for transportation for Baltimore. Transit and auto transportation is expensive, and as a region we need to continue to support every piece of transit that is affordable.
It appears that there is the likelihood of some form of gas tax increase which will add to the cost of commuting. For those traveling between work and residence, the availability of an alternate mode of transportation will continue to be welcomed. Certainly, there will be situations where individuals will need to drive. However, the more who use transit, the less congested the region's road system. We need to continue to remove as many automobiles from our congested roads as possible, particularly in peak hours, and a better more connected transit system in Baltimore will assist in that endeavor.
