Right now, Congress is considering Trade Promotion Authority legislation that will help U.S. negotiators finalize pending trade deals with other countries ("Fast-track's Senate stall," May 13).
Trade is an important tool for Maryland agriculture, and at the U.S. Grains Council, we're focused on growing demand for our products around the world. With 95 percent of consumers living outside the United States, our future depends on our ability to sell to foreign markets.
As we continue to increase productivity on our farms here in Maryland, finding new markets for our products is essential. Those new markets will help us sell more grains, poultry and eggs at a higher price and ensure we can pass on our farms to the next generation.
