Towson students help community

Expanding the footprint of Towson University brings up many opportunities and challenges that will require a participative process to bring success to all parties. I hope that this is achievable for the greater good ("Towson University expands; neighbors face growing pains," June 21).

One benefit to the community that was not mentioned was the many community services that TU students have contributed over the years. My involvement with student volunteers started in the late 1990's when the Towson-Timonium Kiwanis Key Club of Dulaney High School and the Circle K of TU began planting trees on the property that was previously home to the Cloverland Farms Dairy. We now have close to 6,000 trees growing in this area.

Over that time, Towson students have contributed thousands of volunteer hours planting and maintaining trees as well as cleaning up streams, providing interns and video services. I am certain that this is a small part of the overall services that the dedicated students of TU provide to our communities.
