Here's the ticket on parking

I loved Dan Rodricks' recent column regarding the parking ticket he received in Baltimore City ("Pleading parking stupidity might be the ticket," Oct. 31). It brought back memories of my father, Jimmy, who was a Baltimore city policeman way back when. He would have been 100 years old on Nov. 6 if he had lived.

He walked the beat on Greenmount Avenue and 33rd Street. If he came upon a meter in front of a business that had expired or was about to expire, he would go into that business and get the person to feed the meter. He would not give them a ticket. His ticket book was yellow, and the pages curled up from lack of use. He was a well-loved policeman by all of the merchants in the neighborhood. He was a very good man. Happy 100th birthday, dad.
