A teachers contract that works

The Baltimore City school system as made much progress toward under its new teachers contract. As with any new contract, it takes time for all its provisions to be fully implemented ("Baltimore schools' uncharted waters," Dec. 20).

Each teacher needs to give this contract a chance to work. At this point, there shouldn't be that many questions as to how each teachers will be evaluated because all teachers ought to know by now what constitutes a well-structured, balanced lesson that actually meets the needs of every student.

I suggest that each teacher focus every day on providing strategic, thorough and in-depth lessons that motivate, encourage and arouse students' curiosity and interest in reaching their goals.
