Does Rodricks actually believe the stuff he writes?

Many times I suspect Dan Rodricks does not really believe what he writes in his commentary columns. Surely he just wants to meet a deadline or get a rise out of the full-brained readership. And his latest column, "GOP: Tax the poor, protect the rich" (Aug. 21)is another example of a position he cannot possibly believe in.

He has to be jesting when he suggests that the people earning $40,000 or less should not contribute any taxes that pay for the defense of this country from foreign enemies, local law enforcement to protect us from the bad guys, the education of children, the support for the environment, the assurance we have quality food on our table, fair employment laws, fair housing laws, fair everything.

Only those with a half a brain or no heart would think they owe nothing to support the United States. Surely, Mr. Rodricks is not half-brained, and I do believe he has a heart.
