'Doomsday' budget: Made in Annapolis

Isn't it amazing how state fiscal analyst Warren Deschenaux says Maryland needs to cut $795 million in spending ("'Doomsday' budget lays out grim choices," March 6)? Every year that Gov.Martin O'Malleyhas been in office, the state budget has increased. Just a coincidence?

Isn't it amazing how only the counties mentioned in the article are the three totally Democratic jurisdictions — Baltimore, Prince George's and Montgomery counties — that can make or break the vote in the Senate?

Isn't it amazing how all the negative quotes about budget cuts came from the same place? Sen. Nathaniel McFadden, a Baltimore Democrat says, the impact it will have on the same three jurisdictions is totally unacceptable. Montgomery County Sen. Roger Manno said he believes tax increases are preferable to doomsday cuts.

Isn't it amazing how Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller predicts the Senate will adopt some form of tax increase?

What's not amazing is how the rest of the state has had to put up with this kind of leadership. The same jurisdictions that put Martin O'Malley in office not once but twice have made us all suffer. Now those same idiots are at it again.

Everyone else has had to cut back. Those of us who are working have seen our salaries remain stagnant. Health care, gas and food have all gone up. On top of that, the Senate president predicts teacher pension costs will be passed on to the counties. Now Senator Manno is proposing an income tax increase.

Legislators say 500 state employees could be laid off if cuts are made. They should start in Annapolis. There is a whole lot of dead wood there.
