Here we go again! Regarding your recent editorial on Gov.Martin O'Malley's budget ("A tough budget," Jan. 19), is it my imagination or does this sound like many of the previous legislative sessions we have endured?
As usual, Maryland has a massive structural deficit. As usual, the governor and the legislature are frantically looking for ways to plug the gap. Did not the last few legislative sessions pass sufficient tax increases, some being the largest in the history of this state, and promise they would solve the budget woes for Marylanders? It seems not!
Each year, it also seems that The Sun always finds a silver lining in the proposed tax increases. In this economy, there are no silver linings, and finding ways to consistently take from the working people of this state and continue to spend as if there is no bottom to the pot is outrageous.
Until the legislature learns to live within its means, it will be the same year after year, ad infinitum. In the long run, I see this continued annual picking of our pockets to be detrimental to our economy and will eventually result in fewer residents and businesses to pick up the tab.
Personally, I am sick of hearing the same repetitive story for every legislative session.
