In a 2007 press release, Gov. Martin O'Malley promised that if slots were approved, 83 percent of Marylanders would see lower taxes.
Well, slots are here, so how come taxes are still going up? It's just like the 1970s, when the lottery was introduced, supposedly in order to help fund education. Tell that to the kids in Baltimore City who struggle to get a good education because their textbooks are outdated.
When will state government officials stop these insidious lies and tell people the truth? Why aren't they open and honest, instead of shoving something down our throats that gives the poor the false impression that they, too, can be winners through gambling?
