Treason is treason

There is only one word to describe the behavior of an American citizen who provides "aid and comfort" to the enemy — it's treason ("Girls' alleged attempt to go to Syria worries some," Oct. 23). I've no idea what the federal statutes are today, but in the past the penalty was a death. Since these Somali-American girls are under age and the third girl from Sudan is also a minor, their crime will be excused with a slap on the wrist. Nevertheless, parental responsibility must be called into question.

It appears there's an enormous Somali community in the United States, and to me it's troublesome many may harbor a loyalty to Islamic Jihad. The United States' war on the terror group ISIS is officially called "Operation Inherent Resolve." The name Inherent Resolve intends to reflect the unwavering resolve of the U.S. and partner nations to eliminate this terrorist group and threats it poses.

I was in Washington on 9/11, and understand the horror of militant jihad. It's time all Americans recognize the dangers we face. I have no sympathy for the seditious Denver teens or their families. In a way, I'm sorry they were returned. Let them join ISIS and find out how women are treated by radical Islam!
