Remembering the heroes of Sparrows Point

Last weekend hundreds of individuals gathered at Dundalk Heritage Park to remember and honor the heroes of the American steel industry who died on the job making the steel that made America strong ("Monument to Sparrows Point's casualties lives on at new home," Sept. 15).

A remarkable speaker was Michael, who described those workers as heroes because they dedicated their lives to supporting their families, communities and their union under difficult and often dangerous conditions in the mills.

As the memorial dedication closed, the song "Solidarity Forever" was sung to the tune of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," ending with the words "Solidarity forever, for the union makes us strong!"
