Pallozzi a good choice for state police

I am writing to express my opinion on Gov. Larry Hogan's choice of William Pallozzi to lead the Maryland State Police ("Hogan picks veteran trooper to be state police superintendent," Feb. 18). I think that this again shows that the governor has stayed true to his word and chosen the correct person for the job and has not brought politics into this process.

Mr. Pallozzi has a great deal of experience within the department, has done various jobs there, and also seems to have what appears to be a very good vision for the future of the agency. With the new gun laws, the urgent problem of heroin and the budget state of emergency, I think we needed a person who can step right in and know the ins and outs of the department, thus allowing him to immediately start to make a difference on these issues.

In addition, it is also apparent that Mr. Pallozzi has very strong ties to the community, something that I personally like to see in a job such as this. Recruiting a hired gun from another state would be sending the wrong message. So kudos to Governor Hogan for yet another strong choice in filling his cabinet with the correct person for the job and not the person from the correct side of the aisle.
