Lochearn's Starr-y days

Blaze Starr did, in fact, live on Buckingham Road in the neighborhood of Lochearn, as letter writer Albert Sherman recalled ("My brush with Blaze," June 17). After Hurricane Agnes, Ms. Starr's home was completely destroyed by rising flood water. My neighbor (the proud owner of a little skiff) drove his boat to her home every time the skies even seemed to threaten rain! During Agnes, he once again saved the day and regaled us kids with Blaze Starr stories.

We lived in Woodmoor, and Blaze Starr would shop at what was then the Food Fair grocery store. Somehow, word would spread through the kids in the neighborhood that Blaze Starr was in the grocery store and we would all race to the Food Fair just to take a look at our famous, resident night-club stripper.

Unfortunately after Agnes, Ms. Starr seemed to have enough of her water issues, and she moved away from Lochearn. My neighbor's skiff was returned to its less exciting purpose of fishing, and being sent to the grocery store by our parents was never the fun trip it used to be when Blaze Starr was in the house!
