The proposed legislation to raise the state speed limit this year could give Gov. Larry Hogan a chance to assuage of lot of people's feelings on the issue ("Md. speed limits could reach 70 mph," March 5).
When he signs the bill he should also ensure that the higher speed limit is enforced. If he were to instruct the state police to have a zero tolerance policy for motorists going 71 mph or above it would both honor lawmakers' intentions while maybe even saving a few lives.
