Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will never give up on her attempts to rectify Baltimore's lingering problems with speed cameras ("Mayor pledges new speed camera system," Dec. 19).
While her efforts are admirable, many are wondering what the true reasoning is for the energy she expends to make this program work.
If it were solely for the city's roads to be incrementally safer, she should be anointed sainthood. Perhaps she chose the wrong calling; maybe she should have followed a career path to becoming a health, safety, security and environment director of a major corporation.
The one given about politicians of this era is that they all seemingly have ulterior motives or a hidden agenda. Just as pols from bygone eras were generally honest folks striving to make their constituents' lives better, the elected officials of today are seemingly always searching to expand their monetary conduits.
Otherwise, we would have to call them something, anything, other than politicians.
