Furor over new youth soccer rule is silly

How in the world did a story about youth soccer age requirements end up on the front page of a major newspaper? The placement of such a non-newsworthy topic and the amount of space devoted to it were ridiculous ("New age rules 'wreaking havoc' in youth soccer," Aug. 19).

To assert that something like this is "wreaking havoc" shows a lot of misplaced priorities as well being illogical. Two simple points refute the entire premise of the article:

First, I know from experience that the old system was very confusing with its mid-year age break.

Second, there is a very easy fix for the children whose teams are being split up, and that is simply having the younger players play up -- which was mentioned in the article only as an aside.
