As a Baltimore City Public School employee, I am shocked and appalled that school was not delayed or canceled Tuesday ("Snow to accumulate through early afternoon, causes major traffic delays," Jan. 6).
I would like to know why Baltimore schools remained open despite neighboring counties making the wise decision to close. I witnessed numerous car crashes and abandoned cars on my drive to work, evidence of dangerous road conditions. Furthermore, it is in children's best interest to cancel or delay schools when they have to walk to school or wait for buses in the snow and cold.
I hope that this lack of concern for my students will be only a one time occurrence and that next time there are snowy conditions on a school day, more care will be given to consider my students' safety and well-being.
