It'll take more than a catchy slogan to change Baltimore's image

The wizards behind city slogans are hard at work again. Their latest, "Baltimore: Birthplace of The Star Spangled Banner," follows a long line of previous monikers, including "Charm City" and "The City That Reads" ("New city slogan nods to city's star-spangled history," Jan. 12).

Will the new slogan end the miserable bloodletting, the blighted blocks of vacant houses, the gang activity and drug sales in Baltimore?

Will it help in real issues such as heroin addiction and unemployment? The answer is obvious.

Once again, it's a matter of misplaced priorities that pervade our city. It's the old "lipstick on a pig" mindset.

It's a different slogan, yes, but the same madness still infests Baltimore at its beleaguered core.
