Bravo to Gov. Larry Hogan for rolling back the requirement that homeowners use the best available technology septic systems even though they're living nowhere near the state's environmentally critical areas ("Gov. Hogan will roll back O'Malley-era septic rule, demands repeal of "road kill bill," Aug. 20).
Homeowners who were forced to install these costly septic systems were required to spend as much as three times as much for a technology that has yet to show any benefits.
Perhaps Governor Hogan and the state will consider issuing a rebate or some financial concessions to those of us who complied with yet another onerous law.
We are forced to have these systems inspected annually, adding yet more financial burden and hassle. Who pays when the government oversteps its boundaries and enacts laws with no proven benefit? The citizens as usual.
The least the state could do is make amends for a failed environmental program with no known benefits outside the state's critical areas.
