Social Security isn't a 'benefit'

Calling Social Security recipients "beneficiaries" implies that Social Security is a "benefit." It is not ("The senior double whammy," Oct. 18).

Recipients have paid into the Social Security program all their working lives. Since when does having one's deposits returned as retirement income become a benefit?
