Sens. Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski are working on proposals to ease tension in Baltimore as a result of the rioting and vandalism from the death of Freddie Gray ("Bills in works to ease tension," June 15).

First, we have no idea exactly how Mr. Gray died, as the results of the autopsy have yet to be made public, and there are trials which we have not had to determine who was at fault, if anyone. Of course, that does not justify the looting and vandalism that occurred because the police were not allowed to respond in an appropriate manner. None of this seems to matter to our Democratic senators, their answer is the usual — to throw money at the problem.

Their response includes bills that total $71 million for studies or grants or equipment. This is a typical response by either national or state elected officials in Maryland. Warning: Sooner or later you will run out of other peoples' money!
