City youth need discipline, not state dollars

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake complains about Gov. Larry Hogan's decision to fund the pension system instead of giving it to the schools ("Hogan funds pensions, but nothing more for schools," May 14).

"Given how the needs of our children have been highlighted by the events of the past few weeks, I hoped that the governor would have agreed … that these dollars are critical for expanded educational opportunities," she said.

The "needs" that have been manifest in the past few weeks are the needs for discipline and parenting. Pouring more money into the public school system isn't going to provide that.
