The recent commentary by Paul Marx stating that "all the effort and money that went into" the Enterprise Foundation's work in Sandtown-Winchester "yielded little that lasted" is reckless ("Rouse's failure in Sandtown-Winchester," March 13).
I suggest Mr. Marx visit this area and see the many good changes still being made thorough the commitment, hard work, love and hope of the many wonderful people and organizations in the community. To name a few: New Song Community Learning Center, Habitat for Humanity, Martha's House, Jubilee House and Big City Farms, which grows organic vegetables and employs area residents coming out of prison who need jobs.
Do not underestimate the positive changes that have occurred, and continue to occur, in the Sandtown-Winchester area. It is not, nor is there any community, "too lost to be helped much."
