House Speaker Paul Ryan's criticism of President Obama's Cuban policy is utter nonsense ("The Latest: Castro goes to airport to send Obama off," March 23).

Mr. Ryan claims that we should not reopen relations with Cuba because of its human rights abuses. This has been a Republican (and unfortunately) a Democratic lockstep argument since 1960 when we broke relations with the Castro regime.

Yet, he and other critics of President Barack Obama have not suggested that we break relations with Russia, China, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, Burma and the myriad of countries which engage in equal or worse abuses. Political doublespeak as usual.
