Can Trump supporters be reasoned with? Maybe not. | READER COMMENTARY

In response to Dan Rodricks’ column (”Impeach Trump, jail Capitol mob, then what?” Jan. 10), I can’t change the minds of people I know who are Donald Trump supporters — even the more rational ones. I am even fearful to ask them what their thoughts are on the storming of the Capitol. Even the “sane” supporters are irrational when it comes to President Trump. Even the educated supporters won’t or can’t see how this man through his own manipulation has manipulated them to believe his skewed views.

I was riveted to the TV during the rage on our Capitol. I saw our beautiful flag being used for dissent and ugliness toward what America stands for. I saw our beautiful flag being used in a way that was reminiscent of how the Confederate flag is used and this made me sick.

Although I would be first in line to applaud the impeachment of said person, it’s most likely an impossibility. My hope is the fine state of New York will be the undoing of Mr. Trump and his unethical family.

As for all the other right-winged radicals out there — I have no answer. Time has proved over and over again that deep prejudices and ignorance are impossible to stop.
