Why is it that either no one is aware of what really is going on or they are too stupid to see it? I speak of our so-called elected representatives in Congress. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is warning President Donald Trump concerning his imposition of tariffs on Mexico to force it to act as a true ally and stop the mass migration of Central and South Americans through its nation to our border (“GOP senators warn Trump over Mexico tariffs. He says they’d be ‘foolish’ to try to stop him,” June 4). It is a fact, not fiction, that Mexico has vigorously, viciously and brutally enforced its southern and northern borders in the past. It seems strange that now it allows hundreds of thousands of people to cross its borders unencumbered. Why is that?

It would seem that there must have been some sort of deal or “arrangement” that persuaded Mexico to accept the fact that these tens of thousands of people would just be “passing through” and not seeking to remain there. Why else would a nation that justifiably and jealously used to defend its borders allow this to happen? Mexico can and should act as the friend and ally that it professes to be and stop these caravans from coming north. Its leaders certainly can see, on a first hand basis, what it is doing to the United States.

If Mexico refuses to help, it is in my opinion they are an enemy rather than an ally and should rightfully be treated as such. President Trump is correct again! If Mexico refuses, the president should do everything in his power and authority to not only reduce trade with Mexico but to force American businesses that are located there to either come back “home” or pay a very high price for remaining there. We are speaking of the irreparable and quite possibly fatal damage that this unrestricted invasion of our nation could very well bring if not stopped. And I mean stopped, not slowed down or mitigated, but stopped!

President Trump has the safety of this nation as his primary concern. It would be nice if the Congress shared it.
