A reader complimented the commentary by David Hornbeck that supports recommendations of the Kirwan Commission but bemoans the fact that the article referred to President Donald Trump (“Keep partisan politics out of Kirwan debate,” Aug. 27). Mr. Hornbeck stated in his column that our president routinely resorts to inaccurate rhetoric (“Former Maryland state superintendent: Hogan is wrong about the Kirwan Commission,” Aug. 23). Well, I think Mr. Hornbeck was overly kind to President Trump who not only resorts to inaccurate rhetoric but flat out lies multiple times every day.
When Mr. Trump, a draft dodger and real estate hustler, was first elected I knew it would be tragic for the country, but it has turned out far worse. We now learn that Mr. Trump, in his rabid efforts to build a wall, has requested government officials to confiscate private property without due process and to ignore environmental laws and regulations, offering them the promise of pardons if convicted of breaking the law.
This, from the president whose first priority under our Constitution is to protect and uphold the nation’s laws. The fact that we now have a lawbreaker as president must repel even the most conservative Americans.
