The Sun Sentinel Editorial Board discuss President Trump and his first overseas trip to Saudi Arabia, Rome, and Israel.
It does not matter whether I am a conservative or a liberal. What does matter to me is my lack of understanding as to the manner in which President Donald Trump, as the most powerful leader in the world, will keep his campaign promises. I believe he will do whatever is required to reach his goals, but try to recall the old cliche: “Rome was not built in a day”.
President Trump, you frighten so many of us, supporters and non-supporters, with your impatience. I am sure, as a legend in the business world, you practiced diplomacy. You could not have succeeded without it. Please, please listen to those who you have selected to advise and assist in your decision-making. I definitely would like to see peace in the Middle East, but is it wrong to solicit the cooperation and experiences of Israel’s rational leadership? They are the ones who must accept the responsibility and consequences of a unilateral decision for the United States to consider Israel’s capital to be Jerusalem.
President Trump, I certainly hope you will use your strength and words to solidify your supporters’ confidence, not create additional anxiety.
