Sun underplayed Raskin’s heartfelt speech | READER COMMENTARY

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the lead manager in the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, departs at the close of the first day of the proceeding, at the Capitol in Washington, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021. Trump was charged by the House with incitement of insurrection for his role in agitating a violent mob of his supporters that laid siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, sending members of Congress into hiding as the Electoral College met to validate President Joe Biden's victory. Yesterday’s poignant and stirring speech of Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, the lead manager of the impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate, one of the biggest stories in the nation, deserved to be front page news in The Baltimore Sun and not buried on page A-13 (”Analysis: 5 take-aways from Day 1 of Trump’s second impeachment trial,” Feb. 9).

The Democrat’s speech has been prominently featured on coverage of the trial on many television networks and other media platforms. What did the Sun give priority to instead over this historical presentation of the Montgomery County congressman? A front-page article on sports betting.
