New Baltimore police commissioner will make too much money

“We do believe the machine we built can go further and decrease crime,” said Micheal Harrison. (Kevin Rector)

My understanding is that the new police commissioner, Michael Harrison, will receive a $275,000 salary per year along with a $3,000 monthly housing allowance (“Baltimore needs a superstar change agent as police commissioner; we should be willing to pay for it,” Feb. 7). He will be guaranteed a payment of $275,000 if he does not assume that position. Serving the city of New Orleans, La., as police chief resulted in a full pension with benefits.

Mayor Catherine Pugh personally feels that the city of Baltimore will benefit from these outrageous expenditures for a new top cop. We have seen many police chiefs come and go over the years with little or no change. Why should this time be any different?
