The first weekend in November is coming up and with it the only other series of horse races that come close to the Triple Crown. That would be the Breeders Cup: two days of racing that have, historically, moved to a different track every year.
Some are hoping that this event will come to Maryland in 2020, which just happens to be the year that our own Triple Crown Track, Pimlico, turns 150. A newly renovated facility would host more than just horse races. It would better serve events like weddings, fund raisers, concerts and horse shows that are already held there. Add to that a museum for the incredible history the horse industry has in our state. I wonder how many jobs this would mean to our local economy? The first half of the Maryland Stadium Authority report about Pimlico was so encouraging ("State racing industry has successes to celebrate, questions looming, as Maryland Million approaches," Oct. 19). Many of us anxiously await part two. We must stand behind this fabulous old and important part of Baltimore, indeed Maryland history. Hi ho Pimlico!
