Pence played politics with anthem, too

Vice-President Mike Pence used the national anthem at an NFL game to protest "any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem" by intentionally attending and then leaving the Colts-49ers game (“Vice President Mike Pence leaves 49ers-Colts game after players protest during anthem,” Oct. 8). So, it is respectful for the vice president to use the anthem and a nationally televised NFL game as a forum for protest, but disrespectful when those with dissenting points of view do likewise?

A more respectful way to protest his feelings about the NFL without using the national anthem as a prop would have been to boycott the event itself. Of course, that would not generate the attention and publicity that he seeks. Mr. Pence appears to have copied from the players’ playbook. As it is often said, imitation is the highest form of flattery.
