Orioles safety netting is long overdue

The Orioles plan to extend the protective netting at Camden Yards from Section 16 through Section 58.

I’m still trying to figure out what took the Orioles so long to decide to extend the protective netting on the baselines past the dugouts (“Orioles extend protective netting in 2018 beyond dugouts in Camden Yards, Ed Smith Stadium,” Jan. 24).

The Orioles, along with the rest of the teams in both leagues, should have done this years ago. To the fans who believe this will detract from the major league experience, I’ve been to games in Pittsburgh where the netting is extended, and it is barely noticeable.

All I can say is it’s about time and shame on the five remaining teams that have yet to make the same decision protect their fans.
