Colin Kaepernick is back in the news as Nike courageously features him in their ads (“Mad at Nike for its Colin Kaepernick ads? Blame Donald Trump,” Sept. 3). He deserves our praise and support for risking his reputation and livelihood to bring attention to continued police brutality against young black men. His behavior is in the tradition of other American patriots who fought and demonstrated to make this nation a more just Republic.
Doubtless, there will be some armchair patriots who will take exception to his behavior on the football field, including our draft dodging President Donald Trump, but they have little understanding of what makes this country great.
