Kudos to Kurt Schmoke for his well articulated article in The Baltimore Sun regarding the need to allow Johns Hopkins University to provide police for the areas in and around its campus (“Kurt Schmoke: 'perplexed' by concerns over Johns Hopkins police force,” Feb. 22).
As our former mayor, Mr. Schmoke had the vision to support legalization of drugs, which is now finally beginning to happen 30 years later. The drug lords have been making lots of money and murdering our citizens for far too long.
Johns Hopkins is one of Baltimore's most iconic and important institutions on many levels. Mr. Schmoke politely said he" is a little perplexed" as he laid out point after point of how and why the support of Johns Hopkins will help an understaffed and under budgeted Baltimore police force. It is not only needed but has been done successfully on other college campuses around the country. Our community, civic, political and philanthropic leaders are in near unanimous support. What's not to like about this win-win and much needed proposal?
