The recent gun violence in the news terrifies me as a citizen. I have been lucky enough not to have been touched by gun violence personally, but, like many of my peers, I feel it is only a matter of time. I urge Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Rep. Andy Harris to consider legislation that will limit the sale of high-powered weapons (“2020 Democrats are talking gun control. Will they propose ideas that would actually work?” Aug. 12).
There is no practical use for such a weapon, and we have seen that the possession of these weapons can lead to tens of deaths and injuries in seconds, well before any “good guy with a gun,” be it police or another citizen, can intervene. Furthermore, no person should feel the need to carry a gun in a public setting just to prevent themselves or their loved ones from being murdered.
We need stricter gun legislation. A majority of Americans, including myself, have had enough of senseless violence.
