The horror behind those 'offensive' Halloween costumes

Imagine the overwhelming grief one would feel after a friend or family member’s murder; how painful it would be to be reminded of it. This is not that something other people, especially students at Baltimore’s private schools, should make fun of (“Racially charged photos of Baltimore private school students in Halloween costumes create stir online,” Oct. 30).

The Boys' Latin School of Maryland graduate's choice to wear an orange jumpsuit with "Freddie Gray" written on the back was offensive. Even the photo taken of the two students from Gilman School and Roland Park Country School seemed insensitive.

Although the administrators at these private schools are providing support to offended students, they should punish those involved and emphasize how inappropriate this was.

The students are masking the issue and making it seem unimportant. Have fun on Halloween; don't make fun. If you even have to think about whether your costume is inappropriate, don’t wear it. Those who do should be punished for their actions.
