After Florida, can we fix our gun problem?

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, Governor Rick Scott and Broward County Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie speak on safety in schools and the South Florida community.

The thing I find most sickening about these repeated mass shootings is the lack of desire to fix the problem (“In a Florida high school, another tragedy; let’s not let it be another missed opportunity,” Feb. 15). I am currently in high school, and the idea that something like this can happen in 2018 is terrifying.

Excuses are continually made at the expense of those who have been killed and will die in the future for absolutely no reason. The Constitution states that we must have a “well regulated militia.” Our army, national guard, and police forces fill that duty in modern society. I don’t want to take away your hunting guns or hand weapons, I want bans put in place on local, state, and federal law books on all semi-automatic weapons that are used exclusively for murder.
