The value of diversity

Abdul Latif Bennett of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community discusses the group’s mission outside Joppa Market Place on Saturday, Oct. 7. (Alison Knezevich / Baltimore Sun)

We need to understand and personally act on Maheen Haq's courageous and heart-felt commentary about living in rural America (“Being Muslim is...” Nov. 28). We need to speak up on the importance of accepting and valuing the importance of diversity in America — in our cities, communities and neighborhoods in rural, suburban and urban settings.

We need to be willing to talk about the importance of respecting our Muslim neighbors and understand that they bring strength, talent and resources to our nation and our communities. They work, they teach and they serve our nation in many ways, and we all need to recognize their service and make them feel welcome as our neighbors.
