Md. taxpayers should not pay college tuition for undocumented

Don't encourage undocumented with government subsidies of community college tuition.

The Maryland Senate has passed a bill (SB 317) authorizing $30 million for free community college to low income persons. What makes this legislation distasteful is that it would also be available for persons unlawfully present on U.S. soil as well. While a Supreme Court decision puts us taxpayers on the hook for the K-12 education of unlawfully present alien minors, they are subject to deportation when they reach legal age.

Nothing in immigration law authorizes “free” college education. Furthermore, the law states that if a benefit were given, it would have to apply to out-of-state legal residents and citizens as well. We Marylanders are hit with this educational burden more so than many states because Maryland is a de facto sanctuary state (the California of the East) and obvious magnet for illegal aliens.

Frankly, l have no desire for my taxes to be used for any benefit whatsoever for persons who are not legally in this country.
