Does climate factor in new Bay bridge plan?

More than 70,000 vehicles per day take Routes 50 and 301 across the current bridge which links Sandy Point on the Western Shore with Kent Island on the Eastern Shore.

I note the need for a new third span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. But, after five to ten years of “study,” a site may be found. Then there will be another five to 10 years of fighting as no one wants it there. If eventually a site is decided upon, there will be more fighting. Then it has to be decided how to pay for it! And who will build it. And when. And of course where, if and when a few more times as politicians change (“As Maryland scouts locations for new Chesapeake Bay Bridge, hope and opposition emerge,” March 18).

All this is completely unnecessary. By the time any decision is made, the Eastern Shore will be no more! Ever heard of climate change? The seas are rising. And rising at an ever increasing rate. And the U.S. Congress (the most corrupt Congress in the world) is determined to spend no time or money discussing climate change. They refuse to even discuss if they should discuss climate change! Meanwhile, the seas rise. The Eastern Shore will be completely under water and Congress will still be refusing to discuss, and still denying, that climate change is occurring.

Meanwhile, Maryland will still have not come to a decision on where, or even if, a new Bay Bridge is needed! This is the state of politics in the United States today.
