Baltimore City says despite “extensive testing” water bills for ridiculous amounts were sent to over 500 customers recently (“When the water bill is $50,000: Hundreds of Baltimore customers hit with incorrect bills,” Feb. 8). As a software engineer I just had to shake my head and ask, “Really?” Particularly after the past billing screw-ups, did no one consider adding a “sanity check” to the software? Maybe flag outliers for manual review? Or compare the current amount to historical amounts? Come on, this isn’t rocket science.
