Baltimore symphony is a benefit to the entire state

The efforts to obtain more state funding for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (ā€œCity Council urges state legislators to increase funding for Baltimore Symphony,ā€ Feb. 25) indicate the need for the orchestra to change its name to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. The old Baltimore Zoo is now The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Years ago the Minneapolis Orchestra changed its name to the Minnesota Orchestra.

A name change will help the state realize that this superb orchestra is a state resource. The orchestra management will recognize its responsibilities to the entire state.
