Arming teachers — and White House staff

A sign outside campus warns: “Please be aware that the staff at Argyle [Independent School District] are armed and may use whatever force is necessary to protect our students.”

Thank you, President Donald Trump, for your suggestion that teachers should be trained to carry firearms in order to stop gun violence against our students (“The absurdity of arming teachers,” Feb. 25). I am a teacher who wants to follow your leadership example. I will volunteer to begin training as soon as your own staff — secretaries, cooks, housekeepers, etc. — have the same opportunity to carry firearms around in the White House.

Just like teachers who love their students, they would be happy to stop an attack by a crazed gunman who is armed with an assault rifle. As an added bonus, you won't need Secret Service protection anymore, which would also save taxpayer money. I would never want the White House to be a defenseless, zero-weapons zone. That would be like inviting a gunman into an ice cream store.

Thank you again for your wisdom and foresight in sharing this courageous approach to solving our national problem. It will certainly "Make America Safe Again."
