This week, El Salvador Archbishop Oscar Romero is to be beatified. For his preaching against the repression of the poor, he was murdered on March 24, 1980, while celebrating Mass in San Salvador. Archbishop Romero supported and preached for social and economic justice, charity and peace. In the midst of Baltimore's current search for justice and economic opportunity for all, including our young people, we should recall the efforts of Archbishop Romero and others like him. Let us ask ourselves, what more can we do for Baltimore in support of economic and social justice during this challenging time?
