I fear that neither Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake nor Gov. Larry Hogan are getting the message behind the protests that have taken place during the last week.
The city needs better education and recreational activities for its youth and more and better jobs for all its citizens.
It's all well and good for Mr. Hogan to attend mass at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Sandtown-Winchester and call for peace ("Hogan issues call for healing on 'day of prayer,'" May 3).
But releasing the frozen funds needed by the city's schools would be a concrete way of demonstrating that he is beginning to understand the city's needs.
The mass incarceration of young black males is another big part of the problem. Ruining the life of the protesters by keeping them in jail because their families can't raise bail is only making matters worse.
Releasing these young man and allowing their charges to be resolved through the restorative justice process that the Community Conferencing Center offers would show the community that Ms. Rawlings-Blake understands the frustration of the city.
