There is a solution, both long-term and short-term, to the riots in Baltimore ("Solutions, not excuses, for Baltimore post Freddie Gray," April 30).
The short-term solution is to not only to charge those arrested for disorderly conduct and destruction of public property, but to fine them for the total cost of restoring and rebuilding what was destroyed and vandalized.
This will serve as a warning to others who want to riot and show that such conduct is not acceptable in a free society.
In the longer term, the hearts of the people who want to riot, cause destruction and mayhem must be changed. Their attitudes and outlook needs to change from the hopelessness that they feel to hopefulness of a better day.
Therefore, schools in Baltimore need to teach the precepts of the Christian Bible. Teachers and students need to read the Bible every day in every grade because it is the moral foundation for our country.
Cities will find that the young people would gain a new, positive perspective on life. Baltimore would see an economic and cultural blossoming it has not experienced in generations.
Do the politicians have the guts to change?
