Many thanks to Rita Animashaun for her letter placing the blame for the recent disturbances in Baltimore on the parents of the rioters ("Parents have lost control of their kids," May 30). I agree with her that children should be taught to respect the law and "any indiscretion on their part against the community was a reflection on their family."
I'd take it a step further. The parents of our leaders, who by and large attended Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Johns Hopkins universities and other elite institutions, need to remind their children of the values they learned in school — now largely ignored in the quest for money, fame and power.
If they did, the result might be a more just society where young people wouldn't feel the need to riot and commit "indiscretions."
