Dear Republican voters,
Thank you for a wonderful Christmas gift. We will be able to use it for the next few years. And we will think of you when we do. By electing a Republican governor and Republican majority in the U.S. Congress, you have relieved the liberals of a heavy burden. We are now the critics and you the criticized. What an unselfish act of kindness. You must have spent hours planning this gift.
Our fear is that we may be unworthy of your generosity. We have spent our lives helping the poor, speaking up for gay neighbors and protesting the inequality in female salaries. It will take some time to adjust to the new lifestyle of the Republican platform. We liberals were not schooled in conservative principles. Give us time to acclimate.
To return this gracious gift, we will be diligent in practicing the word "no." You have taught us that government can operate without passing legislation. We are looking forward to your wise decisions on health care and the cost of college education.
We wish you the best of luck and a happy New Year.
