I believe that the words of Steve Schmidt, director of Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, sum up the present situation for the GOP.
He said, "It is mind boggling to me that in general terms, the Republican party seems to be absolutely certain that by clinging to positions that are supported by only 23 percent of the American public is the path to winning."
To that I apply the words of President Barack Obama in a presidential debate last year, "Proceed, governor." But I am afraid you do so at your own peril.
